Tales of Rock – Lori Maddox

“Lori Maddox was obsessed with sex, drugs, and rock and roll, and they were just as obsessed with her – despite the fact that she was just 14 years old.”

In 1970s Las Vegas, you were hard-pressed to find someone who wasn’t either a groupie or someone who wanted to be.

The lifestyle was one people fantasized about, leaving home, living on busses, following legendary rock stars from city to city and getting just the faintest glimpse into their lavish lifestyles. Not everyone could handle it, and those who could became almost as famous as the stars. One, in particular, was Lori Maddox.

The only problem? Lori Maddox was 14 years old.

Fresh out of junior high school, Maddox met Sable Starr, who became known as the “queen of the groupie scene.” Starr, also underage at the time, pulled Maddox into her seedy world of the after-hours parties on the Sunset Strip.

When Lori Maddox was just 15 years old, she met David Bowie.

She and Starr were at the E-Club, one of the nightclubs that dotted the strip and played host to rock stars, and turned a blind eye to drug use and girls that might not be of legal age. Bowie, eleven years her senior at the time, scared her at first. When asked about meeting Bowie, she described him as, “hair the color of carrots, no eyebrows, and the whitest skin imaginable.” She pretended she was with someone else to avoid going back to his hotel room with him.

By five months later, her fears had subsided, and she had lost her virginityto him.

When she wasn’t getting down and dirty with rockstars, Maddox could have been mistaken for any other teenage girl. During the week she went to school, lived at home with her mom, and hung out with her sisters.

On the weekends, she snuck out while her mom was at work, and frequented seedy nightclubs with much older men. Despite what seems like an obvious problem, Maddox never considered her lifestyle unusual. In fact, she reveled in it.

Not too long after her tryst with Bowie, Maddox got a phone call from Jimmy Page, guitarist and founder of Led Zeppelin, the biggest rock band in the world at the time. He invited her to his hotel and even sent a limo to collect her.

“I felt like I was being kidnapped,” she said. “I got taken into a room and there was Jimmy Page.”

If there were ever a time for it to click that her lifestyle was far from average, it should have been then, standing in the bedroom of a man quite literally double her age. But, despite the hostage-situation-like vibes, Lori Maddox didn’t run. Instead, she fell in love.

“It was perfect. He mesmerized me,” she said of the evening. “I fell in love instantly.”

Their relationship was secretive and tumultuous and constantly overshadowed by Maddox’s age. But, Page clearly didn’t care. As Maddox was underage she couldn’t travel state-to-state with the band in their jet, so she would sequester herself in Page’s hotel room, and wait for him to return. Eventually, her life outside of being a groupie began to suffer.

“My whole life was about waiting for Jimmy,” she said. “I tried going to high school, but I couldn’t concentrate. And after Jimmy Page and David Bowie, what was I going to do with a North Hollywood boy? I didn’t go to high school prom because I was too busy living the Hollywood prom.”

Then, suddenly, the fairy tale ended. As rock stars do, Jimmy Page eventually moved on, and one night after returning from a show, Maddox found him and Bebe Buell – eventual groupie/lover of Steven Tyler, and mother to his oldest daughter, Liv Tyler – in bed together. After that, her attitude changed. No longer was she there for love, she was there for fun.

Before she turned 18, Lori Madoxx would take shots with John Bonham, do several different drugs with Iggy Pop, have sex in a bathroom with Mick Jagger, and find herself in a bar fight between Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Despite her foray into the illicit lifestyle of sex, drugs, and rock and roll all well before she reached adulthood, Maddox has no regrets. In fact, she says, she never felt better than she did all those years.

“I feel like I was very present,” she said. “I saw the greatest music ever. I got to hang out with some of the most amazing, most beautiful, most charismatic men in the world. I went to concerts in limos with police escorts. Am I going to regret this? No.”

Tales of Rock – Gary Glitter Has Put A Lot Of Effort Into Being A Pedophile

There was a time when nearly every goal, touchdown, or run scored by a professional sports team playing at home was followed immediately by Gary Glitter’s lyrically idiotic mega hit “Rock And Roll (Parts 1 And 2).”

With three words and a good guitar riff, Gary Glitter rocketed to stardom and made a ton of money, which he wisely invested in hairspray and shiny metal studs. His career looked good on the surface, but all that Gary Glittered was not Gary Gold.

He was arrested in 1997 after he took his laptop to be repaired and — D’OH! — he forgot to delete his vast collection of child porn. The offense got him a measly four-month prison sentence. But what must have really stung was when The Spice Girls cut his cameo from their movie Spice Word.

The child porn was bad enough, but the public opinion of his fellow Britons became unbearable after he was accused of having had sex with a teenage girl. So he hopped on his yacht and set sail on a globetrotting trip of pedophilia. He spent time in Cambodia, at least until they expelled him from the country, calling him “a threat to the security … and to the national image of Cambodia.” For perspective, for a while Cambodia was mostly known for their roving gangs of death squads.

He fled to Vietnam, where he had sex with two underage girls and was arrested as he was trying to flee for Thailand. The case was eventually dropped due to a lack of evidence.

A year after that, he was tried on charges of having sex with another two underage Vietnamese girls. He was found guilty within 24 hours and was sentenced to three years in prison and would be deported from the country upon release.

Glitter ‘had sex with girl, 12’

Gary Glitter

An arrest warrant was issued for Gary Glitter last week

Ex-glam rock star Gary Glitter has been accused of having sex with two girls, one aged 12, police in Vietnam said.Police said the girls, 12 and 18, said in police interviews they had sex with Glitter, 61, at his Vung Tau home.

There are conflicting reports as to whether the second girl had turned 18 – the legal age of consent in Vietnam.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, has not been charged and remains in custody. If convicted he could be jailed for up to 12 years.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the arrest of a British national and consular support is being provided.”

Under Vietnamese law, sexual contact with a minor carries varying degrees of penalty, depending on the charge.

‘Lewd acts’

The 1970s rocker was held on suspicion of “lewd acts” with children after an arrest warrant was issued last week.

He was stopped at Ho Chi Minh City airport on Saturday by an official who recognised him from media coverage.

“Obscene acts with a child” can lead to 12 years imprisonment while child rape carries the maximum penalty of death before a firing squad.

A police officer in Vung Tua said: “Having sex with a 12-year-old girl, regardless of whether he had her consent, is still considered child rape under Vietnamese law.”

Police would not confirm whether either of the girls claimed they were paid for sex.

British consular officials visited Glitter in Vung Tau, the coastal town where he has lived for six months, following his arrest.

A Vietnamese foreign ministry spokesman said after Glitter’s arrest that authorities had interviewed a 15-year-old girl they had found at his home.

British officials earlier confirmed that Glitter would have access to a lawyer.

They described the Vietnamese authorities as very co-operative.

Vung Tua police said on Monday they were continuing to investigate the case and are to question the singer further.

Glitter was found guilty in the UK in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served two months in jail.

Then a 2012 documentary alleged that Glitter had sex with a 14-year-old girl in the dressing room of an English TV presenter, who also had a long, secret history of pedophilia. He was subsequently tried (again!) and sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Sun Stories – Chanel – American Gypsy – Part 1

It was late on a Wednesday night. I had worked at the salon the day before from open to close. That’s 10am to 8pm on your feet. To some that may seem like a long day, but I revel in it. I get up early, go out to breakfast then head to Wawa for all the food I need for the day. (Which is normally too much) I get a sandwich, some fruit, chips, a can of soda and a desert. That worked just fine yesterday.

The reason I had to work all day at the salon alone, was because the gym we’re trying to open in the front of our shop is in conflict with the folks upstairs.  They have a cardio gym up there and they are suing us and the landlord for $50,000 to cease and desist. It’s a joke and we know it, but Achilles needs to go to court until we resolve it.

It’ll be fine… they don’t have a leg to stand on. They’re just afraid we’ll take business from them but our fitness center is all strength training and has nothing to do with what they do.

So here I am on a Wednesday doing my thing when the phone rings. It’s around 7:00pm.

“Thank you for calling Sunlight Tanning, This is Charles, how can I help you?”

I hear a youthful, girlish voice on the line.

“Hi. I want to go tanning and I forget where you are.”

This is a common dilemma for people. We used to be up on 16th Street near Steve’s Prince of Steaks but we’ve moved down to the shopping district on Walnut Street.

“We’re at 1234 Walnut Street second floor over Shaffer’s clothing store.”

“I used to go to you to tan… near a pizza place. Where are you?”

At this moment I realize this girl formerly went to a place that was near our old location, called “Sun Myst” which is a piece of shit tanning salon that does nails, threading, cryo and who knows what else to stay afloat. Their tanning beds are junk, the staff is surly, and they are more expensive that we are. I see a potential sale here so I go in teeth out and dorsal fin up.

Oh, you mean Sun Myst near Joe’s Pizza.

Oh, yes… thank you… (Ready to hang up. Sales God instincts kick in to steal from a competitor)

We have the best equipment to get you tan and have better prices than they do. What do you pay there?”

“How much for one UV?”

“$17 for one but $40 for five and they’re good for three months.”

“Oh. I only want one to try it.”

“Okay, we have state of the equipment to get you dark.”

“Oooh I want that! Sounds good!

I’m on the wireless house phone walking into the front of our business which is the gym. The machines stand silent. We can’t open our gym because of the lawsuit. I think of that as I walk toward the  windows that over look Walnut street.  A lovely view of the shopping district. It’s alive with people. We are mired in legal troubles but it’s the only quiet space in the salon because we have no members yet.

“Do you have lotions I can use to make me darker before I tan to make my color come out?”

“We have an array of product like that. (I smile)

“Okay. Where are you again?”

“1234 Walnut Street. 2nd Floor.”

“Okay, I’ll try you guys.”

“$17 for one. $40 for five good for three months.”

” I only want to do one to try it.”

“Tell you what. You do a single and a packet of my best lotion I’ll knock 10% off so the whole experience will be $22.

“Oh my, yes! see you soon!”

“Okay, well if you get lost on the way here call us again.”

“Okay I’m Chanel. Thank you.”

“I’m Charles… nice to meet you Chanel. I hope you come to our salon.”

“Hey , I’m underage. I’m only 17. Can I still come?”

Okay, my loyal readers this is where the rubber meets the road. Because without parental consent we are breaking the law tanning a person under the age of 18.

“Nah it’s cool. I’ll let you tan, dear. But we just need to discuss that when you get here. Okay?

“Mmm… thank you Charles.”

I’m on the phone with this girl who has already been tanning at a competitor and hates the experience and has been paying too much. As a sales guy I need to destroy my competitors and covet their clients. She’s only coming in for one, so I’ll figure it out when and if she even shows up.

It’s 7:50pm which is the witching hour for tanning salons. We don’t want anybody coming in at closing because we’ll never get out of here on time.

I’m mopping the floors and folding towels out of the dryer when there is a knock at the door.

There through the glass is a very pretty Eastern European girl  in a t-shirt, sweat pants and sneakers.

“Hey, hello. I’m sorry I’m late. Are you closing? I’m Chanel.”

Chanel, the 17-year-old minor I spoke to on the phone. She was beautiful. Raven black hair. The T-shirt said I love Zombies.

This one looked like she was fun and trouble all rolled into one delicious pastry.

Tune in tomorrow for the jarring conclusion…

Tales of Rock – Lori Maddox – Part 1

“I LOST MY VIRGINITY TO DAVID BOWIE”

IN THE EARLY 1970S, the Sunset Strip was a magnet for rock stars: Bowie, Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Mott the Hoople, The Who. They all hung out in the VIP rooms of louche LA nightclubs like E Club, the Rainbow, and Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco. And with them, of course, came groupies. Scantily clad 14- and 15-year-olds like Sable Starr and Lynn “Queenie” Koenigsaecker sipped cherry cola, dropped pills, and evolved into pubescent dream girls for the platform-shoed rockers who could get anything and anyone they desired.

Tales of Rock – David Bowie and the 15-Year-Old Girls

The surprise news of David Bowie passing Sunday night caught everyone off guard, and there has been a massive outpouring of emotion and support for a man whose music and art touched many (New Times has published two such pieces). Those tributes are well-deserved. Bowie leaves behind an incredibly diverse and impressive body of work, and he has inspired millions. David Bowie was many things — rock ‘n’ roll hero, queer icon, fashion superstar, a man unafraid to make daring artistic choices. He was also the type of man who, in his mid-20s, allegedly would sleep with two girls not old enough to drive themselves to his hotel.

Consider the story of Lori Maddox and her friend, Sable Starr.

In her teens, Maddox (often spelled “Mattix”) was known as Lori Lightning, a barely post-pubescent model who became known as a groupie in Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip nightclub scene. Raised by a single working mother with little time to care for Maddox, Maddox befriended a girl her own age, Sable Starr, and the two would eventually go on to party with just about every major rock star that came through LA. Most famously, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page kept Maddox as a hidden girlfriend for two years while she was underage.

But before Page, there was David Bowie.

Maddox has repeatedly said in interviews that she met Bowie as a young teen and he asked her up to his hotel room. She was 14, and Bowie was in his mid-20s. Afraid, she declined. But five months later Bowie again propositioned her, and she and Starr went to his room.

Maddox has since told the story several times, including once for a VH1 documentary that curiously omitted her age at the time, but she most succinctly told it to Thrillist just a few months ago.

Next time Bowie was in town, though, maybe five months later, I got a call at home from his bodyguard, a huge black guy named Stuey. He told me that David wanted to take me to dinner. Obviously, I had no homework that night. Fuck homework. I wasn’t spending a lot of time at school anyway. I said that I would like to go but that I wanted to bring my friend Sable. She was dying to fuck Bowie. I figured that she would sleep with him while I got to hang out and have fun.

So the two girls went to Bowie’s hotel, where, according to Maddox, she had sex with Bowie, which later turned into a threesome with Sable.

We got to the Beverly Hilton and all went up to Bowie’s enormous suite. I found myself more and more fascinated by him. He was beautiful and clever and poised. I was incredibly turned on. Bowie excused himself and left us in this big living room with white shag carpeting and floor-to-ceiling windows. Stuey brought out Champagne and hash. We were getting stoned when, all of a sudden, the bedroom door opens and there is Bowie in this fucking beautiful red and orange and yellow kimono.

He focused his famously two-colored eyes on me and said, “Lori, darling, can you come with me?” Sable looked like she wanted to murder me. He walked me through his bedroom and into the bathroom, where he dropped his kimono. He got into the tub, already filled with water, and asked me to wash him. Of course I did. Then he escorted me into the bedroom, gently took off my clothes, and de-virginized me.
Two hours later, I went to check on Sable. She was all fucked up in the living room, walking around, fogging up windows and writing, “I want to fuck David.” I told him what she was doing and that I felt so bad. Bowie said, “Well, darling, bring her in.” That night I lost my virginity and had my first threesome. The next morning, there was banging on the door and it was fucking [Bowie’s wife] Angie. I was terrified of her. David said not to worry about it. They were already at the point where they had separate rooms. She probably knew he’d be in there with girls… or boys. He was totally bisexual. I saw David many times after that, for the next 10 years, and it was always great.

So far as I could find, Bowie has neither confirmed nor denied Maddox’s account of that night, and there don’t seem to be any pictures of Bowie and Maddox. That said, Maddox’s relationship with Page, which — again — began when she was 15, is universally accepted as fact by now. Rolling Stone even confirmed it. Getty Images has archived photos in which Page drapes an arm around an obviously juvenile Maddox.

And to be fair, Maddox has not once indicated that she found the experience traumatic, though the encounter under today’s laws would be considered statutory rape. Quite the contrary, in interviews in the past few years, Maddox seems joyous retelling the story. Thrillist asked her point-blank if she saw any problem with how Bowie, a powerful older man supplying young teens with drugs and alcohol, slept with her that night.

“I was an innocent girl, but the way it happened was so beautiful,” she replied. “I remember him looking like God and having me over a table. Who wouldn’t want to lose their virginity to David Bowie?”

She later added, “I feel like I was very present. I saw the greatest music ever. I got to hang out with some of the most amazing, most beautiful, most charismatic men in the world. I went to concerts in limos with police escorts. Am I going to regret this? No.”

Of course, statutory rape laws are in place for a reason. And it’s up to Maddox to define whether her sexual encounter with Bowie was traumatic. Many have dismissed Page’s and Bowie’s actions as par for the course for famous rock stars, dirty misdeeds overshadowed by their contributions to the pop zeitgeist. Many are crediting Bowie’s being an androgynous role model with saving the lives of queer children worldwide. Statutory rape seems destined to be a footnote in Bowie’s legacy, because maybe that’s how we as a society evaluate our famous people: We don’t let singular acts overwhelm the legacy. We measure people’s value by what they contribute to society, and if a man happens to act unethically on the way to selling millions of records and being an overwhelmingly positive force in the lives of millions, so be it.

Tales of Rock – 11 Rock Stars Who Allegedly Slept With Underage Girls

Browse through the annals of rock history, and you’ll find, just right of the spotlight, the women with whom the most famous and sexually appealing men of the era chose to spend time.

Often, it seems, those women were underage — girls, not women.

Pop culture’s fascination with teenagers is nothing new. Chuck Berry released “Sweet Little Sixteen” in 1958. The Beatles’ opening track on their debut album, “I Saw Her Standing There,” begins with the line, “She was just 17 / You know what I mean?” “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” idealizes future sexual potential (“Those little eyes so helpless and appealing / One day will flash and send you crashing through the ceiling”). And for some reason, many of the rich, powerful rock stars, who in their sexual primes could presumably sleep with anyone they chose, gravitated toward girls not old enough to drive.

Some of the girls — who are now grown women — linked to the men on this list have steadfastly maintained that their relationships with rock stars were consensual and overall positive experiences in their lives. Others say the opposite. Thinking about these relationships raises a number of questions about how we interact with the art in our lives. Is it ethical to enjoy music made by an awful person? Are all 25-year-olds who sleep with people under the age of 18 awful people? Should every case of statutory rape be equal in the court of public opinion? How old should teenagers be before society grants them complete sexual agency? Why do we view an average 25-year-old man who sleeps with a 14-year-old girl differently when the 25-year-old man is extremely famous?

What would you do if you knew a mid-20s man who was in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 14- to 16-year-old girl?

Here are 11 rock stars who have been linked to underage women.

11 Rock Stars Who Allegedly Slept With Underage Girls

David Bowie
As we detailed after Bowie’s death, David Bowie had strong links to the Baby Groupies of Los Angeles, and famous groupie Lori Maddox (often spelled Mattix) has repeatedly told the story of how she lost her virginity to Bowie when she was just 14. (Bowie was in his mid-20s.) Maddox has told the story many times over the years, and the details remain the same: Bowie pursued her, but she initially rejected him. Then months later she and fellow underage groupie Sable Starr ended up in a hotel room with Bowie, and the rock star took Maddox into a bathroom and took a bath with her and then had sex with her. The two would later have a threesome with Starr. It’s worth noting that Maddox doesn’t have any regrets about her experience with Bowie, noting that she would continue to see him on and off for 10 years after their first sexual encounter. “I feel like I was very present,” Maddox told phicklephilly. “I saw the greatest music ever. I got to hang out with some of the most amazing, most beautiful, most charismatic men in the world. I went to concerts in limos with police escorts. Am I going to regret this? No.”

Jimmy Page
Lori Maddox lost her virginity to David Bowie, but he wasn’t the only rock star she would sleep with during her groupie days. In fact, she is better known for her relationship with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. In her words, Page had Zeppelin manager Richard Cole “kidnap” her (Cole is also known as the man responsible for the infamous Zeppelin “mud shark” incident.) Maddox was just 14 when their relationship started; Page was 28.

“What happened is that I was kidnapped, literally,” Maddox said once in a documentary. “He told me was going to be with me, and I said no, he wasn’t, and he said, ‘Yes, I am.’ Then we all ended up at the Rainbow [Bar and Grill], and Richard Cole says to me, ‘Get in the bloody car and if you move, I’ll have your head.’ Next thing you know I’m at the [Hyatt House] hotel, and I’m walking down the hall, and next thing you know, I’m pulled into this door . . . And I turned around and, look, there was Jimmy sitting in the corner of the room with a hat and a cane saying, ‘I told you I’m gonna have you.'”

Apparently, Page’s flair for dramatics didn’t end on the guitar. He and Maddox would continue to see each other for the next few years, though he tightly controlled Maddox’s movements when they were together.

“He always left me with his security locked in the room. I wasn’t really allowed to go very many places with him,” she claimed.

Nevertheless, Maddox doesn’t seem to see herself as a victim. Quite the contrary. She speaks graciously of her time with rock stars and fondly recalls their time together.

“It was worth every minute, truly,” she says. “He was a beautiful person and he touched my life, deeply.”

11 Rock Stars Who Allegedly Slept With Underage Girls

R. Kelly
This one is dark. R. Kelly was a rising producer when he met teenage singer Aaliyah Haughton. He became the producer and lead songwriter for her debut album. He illegally married Aaliyah in 1994 when she was 14 and he was more than a decade her senior. He even had the guts to name her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. “The marriage was quickly annulled once Aaliyah’s family and the public found out,” reported the Chicago Sun-Times, but more troubling allegations involving underage girls would continue to pile up around Kelly. In 2002, Chicago prosecutors charged Kelly with 21 counts related to child pornography, mostly revolving around one sex tape involving a then-35-year-old Kelly and a 14-year-old girl that included intercourse, fellatio, and urination. Yes, this is the incident Dave Chappelle mercilessly ridiculed on his Comedy Central show in 2003, but you have to remember — there was a real 14-year-old girl in that video, according to her friend’s testimony at the trial. The charges against Kelly did not result in a conviction.

Journalist Jim DeRogatis was the pop music critic at the Sun-Times when someone anonymously shipped two sex tapes starring R. Kelly to the paper. When DeRogatis described the case against R. Kelly to our former sister paper Village Voice two years ago, he used the descriptor “stomach-churning.”

“Dozens of girls — not one, not two, dozens — with harrowing lawsuits,” he said. “The videotapes — and not just one videotape, numerous videotapes. And not Tommy Lee/Pam Anderson, Kardashian fun video. You watch the video for which he was indicted and there is the disembodied look of the rape victim. He orders her to call him Daddy. He urinates in her mouth and instructs her at great length on how to position herself to receive his ‘gift.’ It’s a rape that you’re watching. So we’re not talking about rock star misbehavior, which men or women can do. We’re talking about predatory behavior. Their lives were ruined. Read the lawsuits!”

Ted Nugent
Ted Nugent released a song in 1981 called “Jailbait.” Here are some of the lyrics:

“Well, I don’t care if you’re just 13 / You look too good to be true /  I just know that you’re probably clean.”

“It’s quite all right, I asked your mama / Wait a minute, officer / Don’t put those handcuffs on me / Put them on her, and I’ll share her with you.”

Yeah, sure, the lyrics are creepy, especially the part about asking a girl’s parents for permission to “share” their daughter with a police officer in order to evade arrest. But what’s even creepier is how those lyrics mirrored real life. Nugent couldn’t legally marry 17-year-old Pele Massa in 1978, so he arranged with her parents to become her legal guardian. They would stay together for nine years, and Nugent would say that at the time he was “addicted to girls.”

11 Rock Stars Who Allegedly Slept With Underage Girls

Steven Tyler
At least the one underage groupie who slept with David Bowie proclaims no regrets. Such is not the case with Steven Tyler.

Julia Holcomb had just turned 16 when she met the Aerosmith singer at a concert in Portland, Oregon. She had not lived a happy life before meeting him. Her father abandoned her mother early on, and her younger brother died in a car accident when she was 13.

She was in a fragile place when a 24-year-old woman befriended her, dressed her in revealing clothing, and got them backstage at an Aerosmith concert.

Holcomb tells this account in a 5,000-word essay on Life Site, an anti-abortion blog with an obvious agenda. Perhaps as a result, she skips the details of how she and Tyler met and skips to her mother granting Tyler guardianship over her, the reason being so that he could bring her on tour with him over state lines.

Tyler ended up impregnating her, and by her account, they almost ended up married. Things soured, however, and Tyler pressured her to get an abortion at five months, one week before the legal limit. She went through with it, moved home, and except for a few phone calls, never heard from Tyler again.

“In spite of everything, I do not hate Steven Tyler, nor am I personally bitter,” Holcomb writes. “I pray for his sincere conversion of heart and hope he can find God’s grace.”

Jerry Lee Lewis
Yes, it was 1958. But even back then, a 22-year-old marrying his 13-year-old cousin while still married to another woman was scandalous. And yet that’s exactly what Jerry Lee Lewis, one of rock ’n’ roll’s most important pioneers, did. It was in 1958 when British journalists learned of the tender young age of Myra Gale Brown, and the ensuing uproar caused Lewis to cancel his tour and spoiled his chance to dethrone Elvis as the king of rock.

There’s one detail that is particularly unsettling: When Brown moved out of her parents’ house to join Lewis on tour, she packed her belongings in the only container she had — her dollhouse.

“It’s been as if my life has gone on without my permission. I have been a bystander in my life,” she told the Philadelphia Enquirer in 1989.

At 14, the couple had a child, who would die in a swimming pool accident three years later. Lewis’ infidelity and drug use further strained the marriage, and they got divorced in 1971. Lewis, who is still alive, married for a seventh time in 2012. He kept it in the family again — she was reportedly his cousin’s ex-wife.

11 Rock Stars Who Allegedly Slept With Underage Girls

Marvin Gaye
Here’s an interesting bit of music trivia — who is Marvin Gaye speaking to in “Let’s Get It On”? The answer is Janice Hunter, Gaye’s second wife and father to two of his children. They met when Hunter was 17, and according to Hunter’s 2015 memoir, After the Dance, Gaye took her out to dinner and bribed the waiter $20 to serve his underage companion apricot sours.

They began an intense sexual relationship, according to Hunter. She quickly learned of Gaye’s possessive side.

“I don’t want to share you,” she says he told her. “There are all those strapping young high school football players looking to love on you. They’re my competitors.”

As an aside, Hunter was the part of Marvin Gaye’s estate that successfully sued Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for plagiarism, prying more than $7 million from the two musicians’ hands.

Bill Wyman
No one cares about the bass player if the bass player doesn’t sing, even if that band is the Rolling Stones. Perhaps that’s why no one seems to know or care that Wyman began a sexual relationship with a teenage girl in the mid-’80s.

Mandy Smith told the Daily Mail that she began hitting the English club scene at a young age, where she eventually ran into Wyman. The two began a relationship when she was 13 and he was in his 30s, and it became sexual when she was 14. They married in 1989 to much fanfare, when Smith was 18, but just two years later would get divorced. In an added wrinkle, Wyman’s son from his first wife ended up marrying Smith’s mother.

When the Daily Mail writer asked Smith whether it’s appropriate for a teenage girl to marry a much older man, Smith reacted strongly.

“‘It’s not about being physically mature. It’s emotional maturity that matters,” she said. “I don’t think most 16-year-olds are ready. I think the age of consent should be raised to 18 at a minimum, and some girls aren’t even ready then.”

Elvis Presley
The King of rock can thank Jerry Lee Lewis’ libido for disrupting a challenge to the throne, but Presley wasn’t without his own girl problems. Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ wife, was just 14 when the couple met. The King’s attention quickly overwhelmed her, and by age 17 she was living with Elvis in Graceland. His demands eventually overwhelmed her personality.

“I was someone he created,’ she told the Daily Mail in 2010. “I was just a kid and I was consumed by him. All I desired was not to disappoint him.”

Alanna Nash compiled tales from Elvis’ lovers in a 2010 book, Baby, Let’s Play House: Elvis Presley and the Women Who Loved Him. In the New York Times‘ review of the book, Janet Maslin noted that the book contains a series of pictures of Elvis’ girlfriends, who all share one unsettling physical trait.

“The pictures tell a powerful story,” Maslin writes. “He worked his way through a lifetime’s worth of women who looked like his brown-haired, soulful-eyed mother, Gladys.”

The same review quotes Lamar Fike, a close associate of Elvis, with this observation of Elvis’ fixation with Priscilla:

“I’ll give you Elvis’ relationship with Priscilla in a nutshell. You create a statue. And then you get tired of looking at it,” Fike told Nash.

Iggy Pop
Iggy Pop was one of baby groupie Sable Starr’s many celebrity lovers. There’s no ambiguity here — besides the many pictures of the two together, Iggy wrote a song, “Look Away,” from the 1996 album Naughty Little Doggy, about their relationship. “I slept with Sable when she was 13 / Her parents were too rich to do anything / She walked her way around L.A. / Till a New York Doll carried her away.”

(Starr moved to New York City to live with New York Dolls member Johnny Thunders at age 16, and their relationship ended in a torrent of abuse. “After I was with him, I just wasn’t Sable Starr anymore. He really destroyed the Sable Starr thing. Se made me throw away all my diaries and all my phone numbers down the incinerator, and he ripped up my scrapbook,” she says in Please Kill Me: the Uncensored Oral History of Punk.)

Now, Iggy Pop is about 10 years Sable’s elder. “Look Away” is a mournful song, a blurry reminiscence through a hazy lens. Iggy seems to carry a little shame at how he treated Sable, and how when he saw a nasty situation developing between the teenager and the New York Doll, he simply ignored it — looked away.

“I found her in a back street with her looks half gone / she was sellinsomething that I was on,” he sings. He later concludes the story, “So a few years later Thunder died broke /  Sable had a baby back at her folks / Me, I went straight and serious too / There wasn’t much else that I could do.”

Mick Jagger
Lori Maddox relates a story about having BDSM-flavored sex with Jagger when she was 17.

“I remember being 17 and hanging out at the Record Plant in LA. I was friends with the owner and everybody recorded there. I saw three of the Beatles with Mick Jagger and Stevie Wonder having this great jam session. But then Mick started fighting with McCartney or Lennon over who would sing on a particular song. Mick got pissed off. He took me to one of the bondage-themed bedrooms that the studio had. Mick said, “Let’s go fuck and get high.” We did blow all night and talked and hung out until the morning. We tried to have sex all night, but, at a certain point, he couldn’t get hard anymore. We were both very high. Another time, Mick [had me] on a bathroom floor while Bianca was getting ready for surgery. The sex was very consensual.”
