Tales of Rock – Update: Pamela Des Barres’ Memoirs Also Contradicted Lori Maddox’s Story

Since writing and publishing my prior post fact checking Lori Mattix’s (Maddox’s) claim that she lost her virginity to David Bowie the night before his first March 1973 Long Beach show at the age of 15, another significant issue has come to my attention.

Pamela Des Barres’s celebrated memoirs, I’m with the Band, also contradict Ms. Mattix’s account. By late 1972, Ms. Des Barres, aged 24 at the time, had been in a long-standing relationship with Jimmy Page. She ended her relationship with him, however, before moving in with Frank and Gail Zappa (for whom she’d previously worked as a nanny) in February 1973, precisely because of Page’s ongoing relationship with Mattix:

I realized how desperate I was for attention and affection I was when good old Led Zep came to town and I flopped around with Jimmy again. The first night was wonderful, even though he had started to ingest many harmful substances, but the second night he left me stranded in front of the Whiskey like a floundering, faded Jezebel while he sleazed off with a thirteen-year-old nymphet called Lori Lightning [Mattix’s modeling pseudonym]. I sat around all night with the rest of the group, getting pissed, and they all agreed I was too good for that sort of treatment. Oh, well.

Importantly, this occurred before her move into the Zappa’s home in February 1973, and therefore well before David Bowie’s March 1973 Long Beach concerts. Between Ms. Mattix’s own accounts and Ms. Des Barres’s memoirs, it increasingly seems that the fact that the underage Ms. Mattix was already in a relationship with Jimmy Page well before she claims to have lost her virginity to David Bowie cannot be seriously disputed.

Tales of Rock: Iconic Jefferson Airplane and Starship singer Grace Slick celebrates her 80th birthday today

Feed this into your head: Grace Slick celebrates her 80th birthday today.

As a member of Jefferson Airplane , the powerhouse singer established herself as one of the iconic voices of the Woodstock era, then found continued success with the more mainstream-rock-oriented spinoff groups Jefferson Starship and Starship .

Prior to joining Jefferson Airplane, Slick sang with another Bay Area band, The Great Society . She replaced the Airplane’s original female vocalist Signe Anderson in late 1966 in time to record the group’s breakthrough second album, 1967’s Surrealistic Pillow . Slick brought two Great Society songs with her — “Somebody to Love,” written by the band’s lead guitarist and Grace’s then-brother-in-law, Darby Slick , and the self-penned “White Rabbit.”

The songs peaked at #5 and #8, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Airplane’s biggest hits. The band emerged as one of the leading psychedelic acts in the U.S. and performed at the historic 1967 Monterey Pop and 1969 Woodstock festivals. In 1971, Slick and band mate Paul Kantner had a daughter, China Kantner .

After Airplane’s 1972 breakup, Grace and Paul formed Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Airplane co-founder Marty Balin soon joined the group, scoring hits such as “Miracles,” Count on Me,” “With Your Love” and “Runaway.”

Slick and Balin left the band in 1978, but Grace rejoined in 1981. After Kantner quit Jefferson Starship in 1984, the group changed its name to Starship and proceeded to score three #1 hits — “We Built This City,” “Sara” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”

Grace took part in a Jefferson Airplane reunion album and tour in 1989 but retired from music after the trek ended. Since then, she’s focused on painting.

Slick was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Jefferson Airplane in 1996.

Camilla was written out of the show by securing a new undercover job in Paris.

Speaking about the decision to leave Death in Paradise, Martins told What’s On TV?: “I’ve loved everything about the show but the only way to grow in life is to take risks, even if it means losing something you love or leaving a place that’s comfortable.

“You should always go forward and take new challenges.“

However, Martins did not rule out returning to Death in Paradise.

She said: “We wanted to make the best exit, and they didn’t want to kill me off, there was no reason to. And who knows? There’s always the possibility I can come back.

California Dreamin’ – 1982 to 1984 – Beverly Hills Babe

Hey everybody! Today is my birthday!

Went out boozing big time on Sunset Strip, my friends said I was barely standing by 11pm so they told me to get a taxi home. (taxi was directly outside the club).

Woke up next morning in a strange bed with shit loads of dolls and stuffed animals on a shelf…um….okay.

Managed to put my pants back on when a woman around a decade older than me came into the room carrying a fried egg sandwich.

She smiled at me and said “You need to eat this then leave. Quietly”,

Then about faced and left the room.

I quickly scoff the sandwich in a vague attempt the quiet the monstrous hangover that was starting to build as the last of the booze wore off.  I went into the hallway and she was standing at the front door holding my jacket smiling slightly. I try to ask her what happened last night but she simply shook her head and motioned to the door.
As I get outside I realize this is a really really posh estate in Beverly Hills!
I don’t have a damn clue what happened but it left me really weirded out for a long time.

To this day I don’t remember how I landed there or if I even had sex with that woman.

Celebrity Sightings: Christie Brinkley, 65, reveals what makes her look youthful and feel ‘invigorated’

Christie Brinkley says looking youthful at age 65 is a lot easier than you think.

The supermodel, who rose to fame in the ‘70s as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit pinup and has gone on to grace more than 500 magazine covers, told UK’s Mirror she credited clean living to helping her fight the signs of aging.

“I hear actresses constantly talking about how you hit a certain age and offers don’t come in anymore,” explained Brinkley. “We’re changing that a lot, and that is because, frankly, we’re healthier today. We’re a generation that has been exercising, has been eating right, and so we feel good. But so many women despite that still get influenced. There are so many things that influence us to feel we should be thinking about slipping away and winding things down.”

“[Keeping young] is to be able to be out there active, doing things, learning new things,” continued Brinkley. “Being curious about the world, taking on challenges, and constantly growing and learning, that’s the fountain of youth… Those things are the things that keep invigorated.”

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY PROUDLY FLAUNTS SWIMSUIT BOD

Brinkley also shared that she refuses to take her life for granted. A near-death experience from 25 years ago still plays on her mind, urging her to pursue her passions.

The cover girl and friends were on a ski trip in Telluride, Colo., when their helicopter plummeted at 12,000 ft. No one was killed.

“Not a day goes by that I have not counted my blessing for being alive,” said Brinkley. “I know tomorrow is not a guarantee and each day is a gift and an opportunity to make sure everybody we love knows it!”

In April of this year, Playbill revealed Brinkley was returning to the Tony-winning revival of Broadway’s “Chicago.” The star, who made her Broadway debut in the musical in 2010 and played a return engagement in 2012, once again is stepping into the role of Roxie Hart through May 12 at New York City’s Ambassador Theatre.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY RECALLS RAISING DAUGHTER ALEXA RAY WITH BILLY JOEL

Brinkley said that over the years, she has been able to find the positives of her life, which has motivated her to take new leaps in her career.

“I realize that none of this would be happening if some of the worst things that have happened to me hadn’t happened,” she said. “I realize whatever you’re going through, good or bad or whatever, it’s all going to make you who you are and help you in many ways. I don’t think I would have been here, doing this at all, if it hadn’t been for some of the worst moments in my life that made me say, ‘I can do it.’”

Back in February of this year, Brinkley told Fox News staying active and eating right have been essential to staying in camera-ready shape.

“I’ve always loved sports and doing things outdoors,” she said at the time. “Whether it’s running around the tennis court, standup paddle boarding, skiing, kayaking, cycling, mountain trails — I just love being active and doing things. It’s just so important to keep moving every day, especially at my age now *laughs*. My enemy is sitting. It’s a big mistake for people to think they need to sit it out. That’s the worst thing you can do. You gotta get yourself to a physical therapist, figure out what’s causing those aches and pains, strengthen your muscles and keep going.”

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY: I GARDEN IN A BIKINI TO AVOID TAN LINES

Brinkley also revealed she’s also no-nonsense when it comes to her diet.

“I’m a lifelong vegetarian and I’m always seeking out my fruits and vegetables,” she said. “I always make sure my fruits, vegetables and grains are all organic. We live in a world that’s so full of chemicals. … We need to clean up our bodies and our environment. One of the best ways is to insist on everything being organic because mankind just cannot take these chemicals anymore. … Diseases are running rampant and this is something we all need to insist on. The prices will go down as more and more people demand organic.”

Still, Brinkly admitted if she could really turn back the hands of time, there would be one piece of advice she would give to herself. And it’s one that she hopes everyone will follow today.

“Seriously, I would have taken better care of my skin from the sun,” said Brinkley. “Because boy, I grew up on the beach in Malibu. I was always as tan as could be. And then I got a job where they would hand me a bikini and say, “Go get a tan!” I would be all too happy to do it. I would be on the beaches all over the world, on the strongest sun.

“I would have been much more careful about the sun. My mom was always worried about the very end of our nose. Like, she would put that dab of zinc oxide on our nose and go, “You’re safe, go on and play!” Like only the nose that sticks out is the thing that’s gonna get burned! Back then, the rest of it was healthy for us. Like, go get a healthy tan. If we didn’t feel well, my mom would say, “Go sit in the sun. It will bake it out of you.” But we didn’t know!”
